Ajax is close to being a very good vehicle in game.
Biggest drawbacks being:

  • Ridiculously big, difficult to sneak around
  • Slow for a light tank, will be beaten to most positions by competition
  • Lack of survivability (no spall liners, no unmanned turret akin to a lot of similar niche vehicles at the BR so the majority of hits to the turret kill both commander/gunner and K/O)
  • Abysmal optics

Its not a flanker, but as a support vehicle. Sticking with your team, its actually very good.

Loving the HE-TF for taking out drones and other aircraft for example.

but outside of model issues (like lack of spall liners)

My only major complaint is the stupid fixed optics

I hate the term support vehicle.
The way that reads to me has always been “This is a vehicle which isn’t good enough in any niche to stand on its own two feet.”.
If you need to rely on your inherently unreliable team to make a vehicle work then it’s not a particularly good vehicle where it is/how it is.

Maybe. But that kind of playstyle of more frontal assault seems to work well for me, rather than trying to be sneaky and flanking.

Which is fine, because it isn’t a very good flanker due to it’s immutable disadvantages.
But having to play second fiddle to blue enemies in front just means it’s at best extremely mediocre and I despise being reliant on blue enemies not doing the dumbest stuff you could imagine to be effective.

It is definitely my go-to GR1 spawner right now though purely because of the commander thermals and being able to pick off a quick kill or two on oblivious flankers and lack of better alternative from GB.

Did wonder how such a modern vehicle has such terrible optics with no zoom

Apparently IRL it has a digital zoom so gaijin has opted not to model it.
Woe, 6x fixed zoom be upon ye.

I see, does make it a bit hard to find and track targets without the zoom

Ajax is a decent vehicle at 10.7, but at 11.7 you’re better off using the Challenger 2. It’s really painful to play; the targets you face are much harder to take down, since at 11.7 you’ll often get uptiered into 12.7 battles.

True, we need the version with javelin missiles now

The Ajax isn’t bad. It’s actually pretty decent at flanking too, but you have to be aware of what you’re using and play accordingly. It’s a slow flanker, but its rounds are excellent. If they fixed those side blocks and gave it the extra armor it deserves, it would definitely be a bit better. By the way, is there any news on the CRV? The APS still doesn’t work, there’s no internal compartmentalization, and there’s no separation between ready-to-fire and stowed ammo, one hit to the ammo rack and you’re left with zero rounds.

Just me, or the leaked goshawk image for the hawk trainer pack not even look like a Goshawk just generic bird of prey?

Goshawks can have that eye colour and perhaps they just followed it out to give a sort of Red Arrows theme, but it’s missing the breast patterning and smoothness for sure. Wish they’d just link the artists page yk?

would be better if Gaijin would accept the Torque converter bug report

Which they denied because I dont have the gear ratios of the HSWL 256
and Renk doesnt provide gear ratios for us plebians

heaven forbid gaijin may just take it as is, and fake gear ratios like they have done already

If anyone has the gear ratios for the HSWL 256 then i will be extremely eager to get my hands on them

It was mentioned before that an active protection variant would be made, but the Javelin version doesn’t seem to be under consideration, not to mention the PSO kit.

Also, the very iconic streak above the eye, just having it shadow colour is, not amazing to me and makes it look like I said, roid filled with major eyebrow issues. Like would you genuinely know that was a goshawk if not told?

Its also not just pattern, its completely different feather style xD

I think it looks more like a Buzzard.

Look - you can’t expect AI to get it right ALL the time! It takes a while for that GHQ intern hammering in prompts to work out the best combo…

It’s also pretty clearly missing the applique over the mantlet / breech area in the damage model, allowing you to .50 cal the commander. While I could be wrong I sincerely doubt they would design it like that…

Not gonna lie that sounds rather stupid as surely it would be nice to finish the line off after the desert warrior
