Chengdu J-10, History, Performance & Discussion

First video quality was not good

I’ve also noticed similar on the legacy hornet (although there only if you try to intentionally put yourself in a high aoa spin-stall at or above upper transonic speeds)

I realized something this only happens to the J10A.
I do not have any problems with the J10C

This^^^

Is there a reason why the J-10C hits a brickwall past like ±1350 kph?

Managed to spade it in nuclear mode but even in a big map I still struggle to hit 1700 kph, which on other platforms is pretty easy.

Kinda underwhelmed with the engine, considering it has quite a high thrust output.

much higher transonic drag coefficient than others, makes it speed up slower after 1 mach

I remember the drag coeff story, but that was even before the J-10C got added, some said it was cope, some said it was un-reportable.

I don’t understand, is it doomed to stay like this forever? I planned to grind it a while back and I was honestly left underwhelmed.

its doomed

unless china suddenly releases FM charts

or maybe if some export country that bought them or is planning to decides to release more info (?)

well. nobody can release such detailed classified information.

i mean it could be leaked

but even then it cant be used for a report

Would be nice to see slight drag reduction potentially, given the 10C’s DSI intake but wouldn’t know much more than that.

Will say the low fuel count without externals does hurt sometimes

Even though the thrust curves were somewhat done dirty, at least from what I remember, the output of the WS is still high I’d say.

The drag is disgusting though, I don’t know I feel like even the Su30sm could outpace this thing (not even the sm2).

Maybe one day they wake up one morning and change it like they did recently to the Fulcrums.

Also didn’t someone reveal that the J-10C is missing some internal fuel tanks as well? (Or in general)

I saw some image of a J-10 with a cutout or showing some internal layouts and there should be more fuel in the fuselage.

Another good point to be honest.

Fuel is quite low and having to give up on 2 PL-12’s to carry tanks is meh.

A possible solution to the issue could have been to review the engine family consumption rate, but sadly that report got closed.

To be honest it kind of should feel like this with pylon and ordinance drag added. But they refuse to implement that (gripen subsonic SL with 6 missiles)

The drag is higher than it should be but it’s not obvious for report without good data. And drama was because one value had pretty much all drag in it so you could do clickbait with that while in total it’s bad but not ridiculous

I found a very odd looking J-10 loadout.

Can it actually carry Pl-10s under the intakes?

never seen it before, i personally think its edited

i think there were mockups with belly mounted a2a missiles but only mockups

i wonder about seperation and ingestion of rocket exhaust into the engine. Perhaps something more draggy that doesn’t get in front of the aircraft on release (ala hammer) but not air to air missile
