British Weapon Systems - Technical data and discussion

Some details about it from AviationWeek who went to look at the demonstrator being built

Apparently 33% larger than Typhoon, making it the largest airframe built in the UK since Nimrod and it’s still scaled smaller than Tempest will be. The vertical stabs are bigger than Tornado’s and has a weapons bay twice the size of F-35.
BAE also confirmed they intend to use the demonstrator for weapon launch validation trials from the bay, so it could be a valid addition to War Thunder unlike EAP.

Yeah, yeah, yeah - whatever.

Can it SUpErCRuISE?

Does it have SEnSoR FuSiOn?

…damn I forgot the other USMainMuppet cliches… erm hang on…actually I can’t be bothered to look back at their crayoning.

well the 6A could run at 1500hp to technically right? it was just the cooling systems which the 9A upgraded so i would expect it to

The base engine could, but just because they improved the cooling doesn’t necessarily mean the 9A can run at 1500 in it’s current congif

The plan seems to be that the 9A has the potential to run at 1500hp if needed for growth, but currently that remains just a potential

This doesn’t mean the CR3 is slower than the CR2, despite making around the same HP the overall powerpack is more efficient and the suspension is better, giving the vehicle more available power to the drive sprockets and losing less speed over terrain

The datasheet that Flame photographed stated that the CR3 specifically has improved low speed performance/handling, which is probably from the new torque convertor. That’s the main issue it has in War Thunder, but I doubt they’ll bother modelling the improvements

i mean it definitely COULD run 1500hp its just weather it will or not with the increase in weight from the cr2 to cr3 being 62T - 66T without any armour packages i would expect some form of power increase maybe to like 1350?

CR2 combat weight is 64t so its not quite as severe of an increase as that

true but is the CR3 combat weight 66T or is that its normal wieght and its combat weight is heavier?

The brochure stated the horsepower increase was for 1350-1500

But this was in a section for the CV12 8A and 9A combined, so it’s hard to tell

CR1 Combat Weight: 62.5 tonnes
CR2 Combat Weight: 64 tonnes
CR3 Combat Weight: 66 tonnes

The CR3 is only 3.5 tonnes heavier than the CR1 in it’s base config, which is quite impressive.

The CR3 is actually lighter than the M1A2 SEP V.3 and Leopard 2A8 (excluding trophy)

well then according to gaijin its armour must be basically the same.

Looks at type 10…

A similar sitation but a bit less drastic

EJ200’s makes sense, but I wonder if they’ll swap them later down the line to the prototype engines for Tempest. EAP of course flew with RB199s as did the DA demos.

However I suspect the GCAP consortium will skip the DA airframe phase and go straight into IPA’s if they want to meet Japan’s 2035 deadline for IOC.

Supposedly has ‘fighter like’ handling, which needs to be taken with a pinch of salt because they said that about Tornado… and Hawk. And given its a huge delta according to every render since Japan joined. We can only assume so much performance relative to its thrust and lack of Canards.

Vertical stabs bigger than a Tornado is an achievement. Bay twice that of F-35 was expected, and means we will finally hopefully have an aircraft of use to us.

Don’t set me off, i’ve only just left retirement…

The hope iirc is for supercruise on the final aircraft, lacking it is one of F-35’s big drawbacks as much as LM will try to tell you it’s irrelevant.

Just 2 x EJ200 on a much larger, (though likely less draggy airframe) than F-35 is likely to make supercruise a slightly ambitious target unless they’re some sort of upgraded EJ200. But based on the dialogue they had when EAP was developed, the engines I expect RR/MOD to have donated are essentially just the ones they have spare.

So unless we’re dealing with huge leaps in aerodynamics (not the goal of this project), i’d doubt it. Basic delta wing configuration is ridiculously mundane, and rather boring but whatever, as long as it’s useful unlike the last jet we got.

Definitely that’s one of the few programme goals we know about.

Hmm… I was just thinking about something, and I got curious… If I’m not mistaken, the Typhoon’s DASS, thanks to sensor fusion, is capable of providing target designation for the radiation source… So, theoretically, they could be used as anti-radar missiles… Brimstone 1/2. And maybe the SPEAR 3. After all, they don’t need a direct target lock. Just send them to the right area, and they’ll figure it out themselves. Of course, I’m talking about the radar-equipped versions, not the ones we have in the game.
In your opinion, how far off the mark is my reasoning?

This is almost certainly the case.

Heck, if the RWR can provide good enough data to provide the RWR contact in the HMD, then it can at least at a bare mimimum also provide the same for weapons. It can probably also estimate ranges fairly accurately

Knowing your position in airspace, the target’s angle relative to the aircraft, and terrain mapping, the distance to the target is calculated quite simply. Wherever the target vector hits the ground, that’s the target.

The next question is: what kind of ECM ESM does the Tornado GR.4 carry, and will it be capable of the same as the DASS? Because so far, our game Tornado carries… nothing. It’s easier to launch a lock-on to the nearest target than to rely on… that.

This isn’t really particularly challenging in the current age. Older equipment wasn’t all that bad at estimating range, and we’ve only really gotten better at it. Presumably more so in the west, but I’ve only really familiarity with Soviet/Russian utilities for this.

Sky Shadow and Britecloud

But its main asset for figuring out where to fire Brimstones at would just be the ground mapping radar which should be capable of GMTI at least at short ranges.

yeah, I think it would be fair to say that aircraft like the Harrier IIs probably could do it fairly well. Typhoon would be super easy

The modeling of ground tracking radar is infuriating. Technically shouldn’t even need to be moving to provide a reflection to be discriminated, just be adequately non-radar transparent. Would mean we’d be locking buildings occasionally in urban settings, but would still make it a lot more useful for low alt strikes. Annoying. Doesn’t even work for moving targets 90% of the time.
