Iris-t slm

Not suprised gaijin hasn’t bothered fixing IRIS-T though im pretty sure both the SLS and SLM are not even a slight concern guven the state of the other new SPAA.

Every game I had for now, both the Z-10 and Mi-28s were hovering without reaction just lobbing missiles everywhere and nothing my team threw at them came even close to them.

This is absolutely pathetic!

Wait for more US players to get the Ah64e and it will only get worse

Nope, they’re on our team mostly, lol.
What’s gonna be a problem is them abandoning the ground just to be killed by BUK.
How? Well it’s just too fast for them to get into multipathing zone.

If a heli gets killed by anything radar guided, that is honestly a skill issue

They are basically impossible to pick up on radar if they just hover or don’t move too much

We’re talking about russian heli pilots right here

You were talking about US pilots and so was I

if u spam 3-5 missiles back to back (within 1s) it will hit. works on the mi28 not sure abt z10.

Well, SAMPT and another thing exist anyway.

Helis can’t be reliably killed by radar missiles. Tried it often with AIM-120. I guess hoovering helis have a bad doppler return (just ingame, irl the rotors will likely light them up af). IR missiles are bad as well, thx to MAW or this new DIRCM forcefield-like protection.

Maybe its possible with Rafale and TWS mode + Mica. EF2000 and ICE Phantom’s TWS won’t work either, tried it as well. Its too bad.

What would probaly work is to downgrade the SPAA to one with mouse guidance (SACLOS mode) like the Rolands or VT1. You simply eyeball it into the heli. Sadly LMURs have bit more range than VT-1 but this should mostly work. 12 km vs. 14 km isn’t a big deal. So put out Flarakrad over IRIS-T?

The slight issue to the SACLOS tactic, is that the heli no longer needs to keep the LOS. They can pop, fire and hide, before any CLOS/LOSBR missile gets to them.

They need to climb quite a bit up to get sufficient battlefield view. Need a few seconds to spot targets as well. If you’re waiting for them, VT1 could probably connect before they finish their attack.

I know this from UHT times (played it often as PARS still did damage to tanks), you can’t just pop out shoot and get down again. Not even with this higher up periscope optics. Map design, trees, buildings just block your view. You need to get higher up, which makes you vulnerable. There are just very few map exceptions with high up mountains and other special terrain features, which might serve as solid cover.

IRIS-T SLM’s radar being only able to perform vertical AESA scan is correct? Seems weird

in the 360 mode we have in game, it would not scan azimuth electronically, excluding tracks updates. Only in fixed mode it did electronic azimuth scan.

Ah, ok.
Btw I’m able to shot down mi-28nm now, but it’s hella strange.

Like, it smacks him. At first I thought that it tracks the belly when they’re flying away, but now according to sensor view it just smacks him on the forehead (as it should). Given that I launched like 6 in total in this pest. So my advice against them if they aren’t crawling up on you - space your launches, best worked for me - launching 4 to make his pants a little more brown than they already are, then if not a single one connects - space your launches by 3-4 seconds and keep blastin’. Worth noting - keep one or both of your launchers as low as possible to correct for the vertical take off distance of your missile, helps in CC and in general as well.
Here’s some more for good measure. Close up POV.

And my new wallpaper

If someone is willing to go and test it in customs - I’ll join. Maybe we’ll be able to develop some consistent know how.

If they dont turn off maws and automatic countermeasures
The missiles can follow them to the heli

It’s head on, and he wasn’t CM’ing IIRC.

I can send you the replay, if you want to have a look
