It’s extrapolated from the working length of the penetrator, which is 680mm + a diameter of 24mm and plugging that alongside other relevant info we know into the same formula Gaijin uses on their rounds.
While we can’t know for certain that Gaijin will make it anything close to this (M829A3’s current stats are literally fake so) it’s at least interesting to try and predict it
I guess it’s a way to calculate it. Tho I would argue the margin of error is probably quite significant. When I did the same pixel measurement for the OLFT (CTA 40 APFSDS) I had about 10-20% variance (I had the shell casing diameter, measured the penetrator diameter, and got the length from the penetrator/diameter ratio which is known for this shell)
Which value did you base the other calculations on ?
Since I was told it would not pass for the OFLT (and I kinda get why, although all my measurement gave me a better round than in game at a minimum), I guess they would probably imagine something for the shard instead of these measurements
SHARD will be the most likely added sooner or later.
I don’t think that would make me like Leclercs, also I doubt they would fix FCS or armor.
Are you aware of any cool addition that could save French top-tier, or make it more interesting?
Some APS, uparmored version of Leclerc, or even sub-tree outstanding MBT. Next-gen MBTs are still the song of the future, also I don’t see how would they fit the War Thunder.
Someone once said, “It would be wiser to wait for the Dutch Leopard 2A8 than to upgrade Leclerc.” At first, I didn’t agree with this opinion, but I recently resumed playing the German Army—which I had put on hold—and decided to change my mind after just three days.
Still, if Gaijin still remembers Leclerc and is willing to do something about it, it would be great if Leclerc got a buff.
Leclerc xlr is supposed to get armor upgrades, but dont hold your breath.
Generaly leclerc chassis is dead. They cant even be produced anymore and for the future frqnce is relying on german leopard chassis. Them leaving mgcs in thar regard ehhh, difficult topic.
Pretty much lost a big part of the chassis development.
Dutch 2a8 is your best option
But it doesnt exist yet. It could need its time until handover, and then until its implememted.
Alternatively some EMBT tanks from eurosatory for germany and france.
You get leo chassis with leclerc turrets. So at least u get a decent chassis
What do you mean push their own agenda.
Its the truth i can look up the sources later.
Thats why the CAPINT is now frances only option as well.
One of the results of the fcas fiasco was the MGCS project development of developing a new mbt together falling apart as well.
MGCS has now deveolved to a pure technology sharing programm. Which is a huge difference.
Edit: only mistake i might have made is in regard to the choice of words of frqnce leaving the project. Since its more like breaking apart from both sides
It’s not as the article that you just linked said alongside that own comment i’m replying to, no one left the program…
Totally different, as what you previously pushed.
Does it though? a 2A8 exists for Germany irl, and we are tagging along on the Gernan order contract. So all Gaijin has to do is make a 2A8 model for Germany and slap some dutch roundels on it.
But I’m sure you are mostly using the Dutch and Norwegian 2A8s as a way to mask your mostly German main intentions, because of Germany not having the best MBT by a landslide anymore.
Honestly i dont realy know the specifics about the dutch one.
But we cant be sure with the sideskirts etc and gajin didnt add tanks before even one was handed over did they? 2A7HU as example coming to my mind.
But seriously please stop saying that, it gets annoying, i am realy only looking at it realisticaly, hell i dont even play top tier, only reasons i am playing as much as i am right now is to unlock the Ho Ri,
I realy dont know whats with you and accusing me with that lately.
Heck i never even played the 2a7V realy, i never did the whole germany had the best mbt arc and used it.
Are my statements that development wise and cost wise the smart choice for gajin to choose a tank they can “copy pasta” to multipe nations in any way wrong?
If we are simply tagging along with the German order it’s a reasonable and an incredibly save assumption to make that the 2A8NL will be incredibly similar to the German one.
Not to even mention the, let’s remain kind and call it interesting, partnership between the Dutch and German ground forces.
dont need to tell me that, as far as i am considered, i wrote netherlands completly of as soon as it was announced that benelux is a french subtree.
And i am all for all nations with a home in the game to get all their vehicle.
Still waiting for that VT-4 for japan, rafale and su 30 for UK and so on.
Only restriction, the nations need to have their orderes received already.
You never know what might happen in between.
See Italys 2a8 order
Seeing as the Dutch and German military’s are so involved with one another with the dutch being able to always be put into a german squadron and preform well its a safe bet that the Dutch will be getting the full 2A8 with very little to no difference between the german one
Either way mgcs as the vehicle is dead.
And france is stranded without capabilities to produce and realy develop a next generation chassis. At least they didnt realy start an alternative yet they could reliably proceed with
As far as I am aware, the development still continues, but will probably devolves from the CAPIN for France, while the Leo 2 ARC and/or kf51 will be the base for Germany. Aside from the development itself, its most probable the hull will be from KNDS Germany yeah
For an intermediate tank most probably. However, they still have the industrial base to restart hull production for a future development, appart from the engine maybe - as only Renault trucks is building large engines in France nowadays, and it’s not really French anymore (owned by Volvo Trucks). For now, according to some parliamentary report, an intermediate tank should not prevent the development of a future tank, even if MGSC were to fall apart - that was said 3-4 months ago, when the Franco German projects were not officially dead.
I also am still uncertain as to were the KNDS merger between France and Germany will actually lead us. From discussions during the eurosatory, both branches are still very much doing their own thing, more so than other European companies.
They for example don’t plan on using the same software environment for the simulators of their tanks (current and next gen), which honestly would be a first easy-ish step. Some might argue that KNDS becoming a Franco German company might help France reorganize an industry to build new hulls faster, but I would still wait to see
Of course always possible, but will be way harder now and there is no current plans in existence for a true next gen tank, with newly specificaly developed hull.
As of right now its only modified leo chassis for france.
Germany is further in it already, having the production places, with both rheinmetall and knds germany if necesary. And the tank/chassis development itself under the MARTE project
Yes. But we are also only a few weeks after the end of the MGCS project basically. We are still not sure if the intermediate tank is going to even stick.
We probably will know more before the next presidential elections, but even then with the political instability everything might go even more wrong
